Layering

Each object (whether single or grouped) has a front to back position in the window. Imagine that each object is on a sheet of acetate, and that the window displays all of these sheets layered one on top of the next. Each object is placed on top as it is created, but you can change the layering order with the following commands from the Layering submenu of the Object menu.

• To move a selected object in front of all other graphics, choose Bring to Front (Command->). This will cause the graphic to be drawn or printed after all the other graphics.

• To move a selected object underneath all the rest, select Send to Back (Command-<).

• To move a selected object one position forward, select Bring Closer (Command-+).
• To move a selected object one position further back, select Send Further (Command--).


Grouping

You can group several objects into one combined object, which you then can manipulate as a single object. Grouping is useful for creating a complex object and for keeping related objects together.

To create a group, select the objects you want to combine and choose the Group command (Command-g) from the Object menu. After you group objects, handles appear on the bounding box of the new group object rather than on the individual objects:
