Poly Line
Use the Poly Line tool to draw shapes with multiple line segments that are composed of angles and straight lines. To create a poly line, click and drag the mouse button. To end the first line segment, release the mouse button. Then, continue to click and drag to create each line segment. When you're done drawing your poly line, double-click or choose the Selection tool.

Note: If you click the first point on a poly line you will set two points. Clicking and dragging eliminates this.

You can create open or closed poly lines. When the Outline inspector is activated (it is always activated when new objects are created), you can control whether the outlined poly line is open or closed with the Open Path and Close Path buttons in the Attributes inspector. When the Outline inspector is not activated, the poly line is closed and filled with the color that appears in the Plain Fill color well in the Attributes inspector (please refer to the descriptions of the Attributes and Outline inspectors in Chapter 4).

If you want an open poly line, hold the Alternate key when you start drawing the poly line. Create won't draw the final closing line.

The following commands from the Splines/Line submenu of the Object menu apply to selected Poly Line objects (see Spline tool above for more information on the Spline/Lines menu):

Add Handle, Delete Handle, Make Spline

You can also change a poly line handle to a spline handle or vice-versa. To do this, select the handle you wish to change. If you have selected a poly line handle (the first or last handle of a straight line) and wish to change it to a spline handle (a handle with control handles), select Loosen from the Splines/Lines menu. If you want to make a spline handle into a poly line handle, select Collapse from the Splines/Lines menu. (See Chapter 5 or Spline tool above for a complete description of the Splines/Lines menu.)
