Size

Use the text field to enter a grid size in points. or use the buttons on either side of the text field to increase or decrease the size to standard sizes.

Remember that a point is 1/72nd of an inch (when it's printed). You can use the grid to help you make objects of specific sizes by setting the grid size appropriately.

The default setting for grid size is 9 points. If you set a grid smaller than 4 points, you won't be able to make the grid visible, but it can still be active.

The Snap to Grid and Grid Visible controls are independent. The grid can be visible but inactive if you want a visual aid to lining objects up, but don't want the grid constraint. Or, it can be invisible but active if you want the constraint without the visual distraction of the grid.

You can also control whether the grid is active or visible from the Format menu. Turn Grid On (command-[), which toggles to Turn Grid Off, controls whether the grid is active . Show Grid (command-]), which toggles to Hide Grid, controls visibility.
